We like getting lost. It’s the best way to discover something new.

Unmapped is a research group specialising in the arts, health and well-being

About Unmapped

We are a creative, transdisciplinary research group that specialise in the arts, well-being and dementia. Our unique approach combines robust academic research methods and artistic expertise. We enable exploration and innovative approaches with people with dementia and other neurodiverse groups.

Exploration, by its nature, means you’re never quite sure where you will end up – but invariably our results are interesting, unexpected and fulfilling.

We have been on journeys of discovery with people involved with universities, museums, care homes, cultural venues, hospitals, businesses, schools and charities.

Our Values

Co-Creativity

Rather than a didactic method we believe in a co-creative approach. This means all contibutors are equally valued and any one person, or persons, can direct the work.  Working this way provides participants with many benefits, such as:

    • Feeling included
    • A new way of hearing others
    • Empowerment
    • Unanticipated questions and answers
    • Increased well-being

Process

Creativity is as old as humankind and it exists on any scale – from the grandest work of art to an improvised moment. In both cases, we are fascinated by the process of creating not simply the endpoint.

Risk taking

If we feel safe to take risks we can make new discoveries.
